Q. What are the optimal system and hardware requirements for GeneSpring?
A.
Here are a few guidelines if you are looking to purchase a computer dedicated to GeneSpring:
1) By far, the most important requirement to run GeneSpring is the amount of memory. If you are planning on importing large experiments (i.e., several hundred samples and tens of thousands of genes), you should have at least 2 GB of RAM, 3 GB would be better. Please see our related tech note for more details on how much memory does GeneSpring need.
2) Processor speed is much less important. Disk speed will make some difference, but it might not be significant. Multiple processors will help with certain analyses, but have little impact on interactive use.
In short, purchase a computer to which you can add memory.
