Q. How can I import a gene list into GeneSpring?
A. Gene lists can be imported into GeneSpring if the genes are defined using the same Gene IDs as in the genome you would like to paste the list into (you may also import a gene list using other gene names. Please see our tech note on how to use names other than the Systematic Name to paste a list into GeneSpring.) Copy the gene list column from a spreadsheet and go to the Edit menu in GeneSpring. Select "Paste Gene List" and you will be able to save a new gene list.
Note that this gene list will not be saved as a genome, but a subset of genes found in the genome, under the "Gene List" navigator folder. Please read how to import a gene list as a genome.
If you wish to import a gene list with associated numbers, such as statistical results calculated for each gene in the list, copy both gene names and number columns, and go to the Edit menu in GeneSpring. Select "Paste Gene List" and a gene list with associated values will be saved.
You may also import a gene list using the "Edit Gene List" tool, found under the Edit menu. Select the tab "Type a List" and paste the gene list into the table on the left. Make sure to check the box "Whole Words Only", or GeneSpring will try to match any gene that contains the name that was typed in.
