Q. Can I import my organism genome and sequence information into GeneSpring?

A. You may import your organism's whole sequence information, provided that you have GenBank or EMBL format files for your organism, and that your genome sequence is in a manageable size. Make sure you are working with GeneSpring version 7 before following the instructions below.

  1. Select "Import Genome" from the File menu.
  2. Select "There are one of more GenBank or EMBL files for my genome" radial button at the bottom of the window.

  3. Select the GenBank or EMBL files for your organism. Files need to be unzipped before importing in GeneSpring. Click "Next".
  4. You may import weblinks at this point. Click "Next", and save the genome.

If you have imported a circular sequence, or if you want to customize the chromosome names, you may customize the physical position view at this point:

  1. Open the "Genome Manager" from the File menu:
  2. Select your genome from the list and click "Inspect".
  3. Check the "Sequence" tab.
  4. If your genome is circular (and if you only have one chromosome), check the button "Genome is Circular".
  5. Change the names of the chromosomes as will be displayed in the physical position view.
  6. Click "OK" and close the Genome Manager window.
